Desgined by Tinker Hatfield and released in 1990, this World War II Fighter Plane inspired model came with some interesting new features for the Air Jordan line. The tongue was reflective so it stood out in flash pictures. Lace toggles and clear netting as well as Translucent outsoles were all first with the Air Jordan 5. MJ scored 69 points in them. They were retroed in 2000 (announced in Slam magazine as well as discussed on Niketalk), and were a hit again, with the original "Fire Red" and "Metallic Silver" selling out almost instantly in most stores. Some new "Retro Plus" colors like the "laney" (MJ's High School) and White "Metallic" were introduced as well. We've seen several new colorways for this model release over the years, even a DMP II 2-pack which featured an all reflective upper on one of the shoes.
