Released in 1989 and designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan IV is the first Air Jordan that saw a global release. The Mars Blackmon (Spike Lee) ads were a huge hit and the scene from "Do The Right Thing" where a tooth brush is brought out to clean up a scuffed new pair of Air Jordan's helped emphasize just how people felt about ther new Air Jordan's. For Michael, he got his first big playoff win against Craig Ehlo and the favored Cavs and created a legendary moment hitting "The Shot" (with a fist pumping celebration after). This was also the first Air Jordan to Retro and sellout instantly in 1999. Magazine hype (Slam) as well as a new online community for people to talk about how much they love their sneakers (Niketalk) also helped. This shoe is credited with starting the "retro craze" as we know it today.
